First proposed about 80 years ago, it is now well proven that the cause of cancer is changes or defects in our chromosomes . Recently, new techniques in molecular biology have made it possible to see abnormalities in the chromosomes and their genes, including small mutations in DNA. These new methods, along with other research initiatives, have led to discoveries that have profound implications for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancer.
